Prayers Like Incense

Romans 8:34 "Christ Jesus, who died - more than that, who was raised to life - is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us."

Revelation 5:8 "...And when He had taken it [the scroll], the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints."

The Offering

The fire is lit - Smoke is rising
Fragrance fills the air.
Jesus whispers - The Father's smiling,
He is pleased with my prayer.

The Spirit leads - As I worship,
Sweet aroma fills the room.
Lifting hands - My focus upward,
Praising Him dispels the gloom!

Lord, I know I am not worthy
Before Your holy throne to come.
But Jesus died - My sins atoning,
Forever death He freed me from.

Now, because He sits beside You,
The Eternal, Sacrificial Fire,
I can offer praise as incense
The fragrance lifting ever higher.

Thank You, Father, that You love me.
You gave the final sacrifice
So I could give my life an offering,
You paid the once and only price.

Leaving Your Nets

Matthew 4:20 "AT ONCE they left their nets and followed Him (Jesus)."  Matthew 4:20 records the response of Peter and Andrew to the call of Jesus to be his disciples. They literally walked off the job and into ministry. We have the advantage of viewing this story with hindsight and the scripture, but Peter and Andrew were in the moment... Jesus was a hometown boy, a carpenter. He hadn't really started his ministry, yet. Surely he had been preaching in the area and the disciples knew what kind of man he was. But still... Fishing was a major industry around the Sea of Galilee and most fisherman belonged to family owned business. Can you imagine old Zebedee's face when somebody walked in his "office" and told him Peter and Andrew had taken off with the new preacher? How do you go home and tell your wife that you walked off the job for a ministry with no pay? How do you feed your kids? Their security was gone. Their income was gone. Possibly a few r...

So Long, Mediocrity!

Recently, I wrote a post about living large . I mentioned in that post that every where I turned, I was being confronted with motivation toward something called 'supernatural living'. This is what I want. I don't want a mediocre, run of the mill life. I want a greater life. As our fall Bible study wound down at my church, I began looking around for something to fill the time between now and our spring studies. I came across Melissa Taylor's online Bible study of the book "Greater" by Pastor Steven Furtick. I had never done an online study of this kind before but I decided to give it a try. I believe this study will be the next step for me in learning what supernatural or greater living can be. The book by Pastor Furtick begins with John 14:12.
